Here is Part One of the story of my Kenya trip. I hope it is interesting for you I arrived in Nairobi and straight away felt the excitement of this new adventure. The trip out to the compound where I am staying was fairly bumpy and I later learnt that the local ‘roads' are rather like a roller-coaster ride but for free!! The family I am working with are Bernie, Celia and their two children Abby and Theon. They also have two dogs, Hodi and Shuri, which I am unfortunately allergic to!!! Communication with home was a problem when I first arrived, as my mobile phone didn't work. Luckily Mum sorted it out from the UK so I was able to let everyone know I had arrived safely. The family here have a lovely area high up looking over the lake, a garden with the most amazing plants and fruit trees plus chickens and geese. It is a world away from home but they are all lovely people and I feel ‘at home' here which is great. Once I got over the flight and started to get used to my malaria tablets I could get down to the exciting work with the local children. What a joy they are!! Everyone is thrilled with the various craft bits and pieces that I brought and Mum also sent some things out for them so they were a big hit. I have helped in various classes in the school, concentrating in my first week on the younger children and next week will be with the youth. I have done colouring and drawing with them and used some of the crafts I brought like stencils, glittery stickers and foam stickers, which they found exciting. Their names are wonderful like: Anthonywera and Corentine. And these children are beautiful in every way. I am so thankful that this trip has been possible as it has opened my eyes to so much and is an excellent start to my training for mission. Thanks to everyone who has been praying for me regularly - I do appreciate your support. Prayer is something I realise is vital for everything I do so please continue to pray that I will be open to God's call and over the next few years that I can grow and mature so that I will be of use in mission in the future. Looking forward to seeing you all when I spend a few days in Bitterne towards the end of August. Best wishes to you all Vikki 2.8.07 |
