Funerals and Bereavement

The staff from the church conduct funerals both in the Wesley Chapel and in the Parish Church of the Holy Saviour. They also conduct funerals at Southampton Crematorium. Burials in the churchyard at Bitterne are limited to where there is space in a family grave and no new graves are available There is an area in the churchyard where ashes can be interred. Where a burial is required or the interment of ashes the Funeral Director will advise you. He or she is the first person to contact with regard to arranging a funeral.

Funerals are conducted by experienced people with great sensitivity and offer comfort and hope through the Christian faith. Bereaved families are visited as soon as we are notified of the death and contact is maintained after the funeral. A Bereavement Team is available to anyone who requires visits in the weeks after the funeral.

The Funeral Director will make all the arrangements for the funeral and he works closely with the staff at the church who will conduct the service.

Each year a Service of Remembrance is held for the bereaved relatives and friends. It usually takes place in the parish church in May and invitations are sent out to everyone who has lost a loved one in the preceding year. Many people find this simple service a comfort to them and they appreciate it.
